5 WORST Premier League transfers from the 2025 summer window so Far

Previously, we covered the five best Premier League transfers over the course of the 2025 summer transfer window – today, we will be examining the inverse.

We’ll look at five players who have failed to hit the ground running at their new clubs this season, including flops from Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea. Before we begin, can you guess who any of them are?

James Trafford

The signing of James Trafford has been ameliorated by the arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma – but suffice to say, this is already looking like a confusing piece of business from City.

His save percentage is strong at 80%, but he has looked very uncomfortable with the ball at his feet and has made very avoidable errors.

Thankfully, the arrival of Donnarumma has afforded Trafford time to grow and work on his weaknesses. Nevertheless, City paid £31 million for Trafford – £12 million less than the value they initially sold him for back in 2023.

Jamie Gittens

This entry was a toss-up between Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens – two young Chelsea wingers who have yet to register a Premier League goals contribution so far. Nevertheless, we chose Gittens on account of him being over £10 million more expensive than Garnacho.

Gittens has looked largely anonymous since joining Chelsea. It isn’t all his fault – he is lost in a sea of quality attacking talent at Stamford Bridge.

This does not excuse his complete lack of contribution to the team, however. As mentioned, he has yet to score a goal or register an assist in all competitions, having played eight games for the Blues at this point. While he is still only young, he will need to improve fast to justify his monstrous price tag.

Omari Hutchinson

Omari Hutchinson was highly rated at Ipswich Town last season, proving to be one of the more promising talents amid their relegation season. Nottingham Forest were evidently impressed and snapped him up for a fee of £37.5 million, but he has yet to reflect this lofty price tag in his performances.

Being used mainly as a substitute so far this season, Hutchinson has had little chance to prove himself – and the opportunities he has had have largely been squandered.

Hutchinson himself pushed for the move when he refused to play in Ipswich’s EFL Cup tie against Bromley – perhaps this is a decison he is now regretting.

Mads Hermansen

West Ham United were looking to sort out their issues between the sticks over the summer – however, with the signing of Mads Hermansen, they seem to have only made their situation worse.

With a save percentage of just 45%, Hermansen has struggled so far this season. Only Wolves‘ Jose Sa has a lesser save percentage than this.

Having played in West Ham’s first four games of the season, he has now been relegated to the bench in favour of Alphonse Areola. While he hasn’t fared much better, he has provided a much steadier presence in goal than Hermansen could muster.

Florian Wirtz

Florian Wirtz has been the poster child for lacklustre Premier League summer signings in 2025 and it isn’t too difficult to see why. Wirtz came to Liverpool with plenty of hype, but has yet to deliver upon it.

Wirtz has yet to score a goal or register an assist for the Reds in all competitions (not including the Community Shield). Given his price tag of £107 million, this is a deeply concerning statistic.

The German international certainly has a lot of work to do. Of course, his natural talent should shine through at one point – but when?
