Arsenal Injury News Ahead of Coventry Clash in Premier League

The 2026/27 Premier League season is due to commence today. Reigning champions Arsenal will take newly-promoted Coventry City in a highly intruiging clash on Sky Sports.

But who will each of the two teams be able to call upon? Ahead of Friday night’s game, neither of them can boast a clean bill of health.

We’ll take you through each team’s injury record and when their players currently on the treatment table are expected to return to action.

Arsenal

Jurrien Timber

Jurrien Timber has often struggled with injury issues, sadly. He missed the start of the 2024/25 season, back when he was recently brought on board, and this season is no different.

He’ll definitely miss out on the game against the Sky Blues. Suffering from a long-term groin injury, he could make his return to the field in mid-September.

William Saliba

The most highly-publicised of Arsenal’s current injuries, as well as their biggest loss. William Saliba anchored the backline together last season amid their title-winning campaign, but picked up a lower back injury whilst representing France in the 2026 World Cup.

Right now, we have no idea when Saliba will be cleared fit. He managed to avoid surgery, but will still face a significant amont of time out of action.

Bruno Guimaraes

Bruno Guimaraes is the Gunners’ star summer signing, but it’s likely that he won’t be available for selection when they take on Coventry in the season opener.

He’s suffering from a thigh issue at the moment and will face a late fitness test to determine whether he can play or not. It’s an annoyance, rather than a crippling blow – Arsenal have plenty of other top-quality central midfield players they can call upon.

Coventry City

Haji Wright

Haji Wright was Coventry’s top goalscorer in the Championship last season, but is now out with a ‘serious’ injury to his quadricep to start the season.

Head coach Frank Lampard stated that the USNMT international won’t be available for ‘a little while’ [via The Standard]. As things stand, he’s slated for a return in November.

Jack Rudoni

Jack Rudoni, meanwhile, is thought to be ‘in contention’ to take on Arsenal. Currently suffering with a shoulder issue, he will undergo a fitness test before the game.

His absence would certainly be felt by the Sky Blues. His energy and ability in the middle of the park is crucial towards their efforts.

Frank Onyeka

Frank Onyeka, like Rudoni, could also be declared fit to play on Friday evening at the Emirates Stadium, though nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

His injury isn’t thought to be particularly serious, described as little more than a knock, so it’s very possible that he could have a part to play in the 2026/27 season’s inaugural game.

Luke Woolfenden

Luke Woolfenden has been declared unavailable for the game against Arsenal, though the exact nature of his injury is unclear right now.

Premier Injuries describes it as a ‘knock’, but gives little more information other than that he won’t be fit to play. We’ll have to see on this one.
