Barcelona ready to battle Spurs & Man Utd to sign hitman

Harry Kane has emerged as a priority transfer target for Spanish giants FC Barcelona next summer. The Catalans are determined to improve their squad and find a replacement for ageing hitman Robert Lewandowski.

Reports emerging from reputable sources at El Nacional in Spain claim that Barcelona gaffer Hansi Flick is eyeing up a summer swoop for Harry Kane. The striker position in the team will be vacated by Robert Lewandowski, who is set to run out of contract at the end of the current season.

Kane has established himself in Germany with prominent displays in front of goal and is already on course to hit the 100-goal tally. At 32 years of age, Kane would bring in the necessary experience and sharpness in front of goal for Hansi Flick, who is known to be an admirer of the prolific English striker.

According to Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, Kane would be a sublime addition to the Barcelona attack already consisting of the likes of Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Fermin Lopez and Marcus Rashford.

Barcelona’s decision to sign the Polish striker came as a huge surprise in 2022, with several critics highlighting that Lewandowski was already past his prime. However, the clinical poacher has not disappointed in the Catalan capital, racking up numerous high-quality performances against top-notch teams at crucial moments.

Despite his relentless performances on the field of play, Lewandowski does not have age on his side. The striker recently turned 37 and has also entered the final year of his Barcelona contract. It is highly unlikely that the Catalan giants will provide an extension to Lewandowski, given their determination to outsmart Real Madrid, which is creating a young team for the years to come.

Harry Kane’s situation at Allianz Arena

Kane arrived at the Allianz Arena in 2023 following a prolonged spell with Tottenham, which denied him for trophies. Bayern Munich signed the Englishman on a 4-year deal that runs until 2027. It is understood that a cut-price release clause has been included in the terms of the contract, allowing Kane to leave the Bavarian giants for £56 million.

Effectively this leaves Bayern Munich with time until next summer’s transfer window to recoup money on their prized possession. If the Bavarians fail to secure a deal or a contract extension with Kane, they risk losing a lethal attacker on a free transfer in 2027.

Is a Premier League return on the cards?

Reports from the English press by The Telegraph claim that a return to the Premier League could not be ruled out. Tottenham Hotspur remain front-runners given the mutual admiration between the club and Kane. Spurs are also lacking quality up front after the departure of Son Heung-min this summer.

However, Manchester United could also be keeping tabs on the situation and might jump into the fray at the correct moment. The Red Devils are massively short of striker options in their squad despite spending lavishly in the summer window to reshape their attacking line. It remains to be seen if Kane would be keen on moving to Old Trafford after a triumphant spell with Bayern Munich.
