Champions League Team of the Week XI
The league phase of the 2025/26 Champions League is now over – let’s see who made it into our final Champions League XI for this stage of the competition.
We saw some massive wins for Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, while the likes of Real Madrid, Ajax and Napoli all fell to defeat. That aside, who were this week’s top individual performers?
GK: Anatoliy Trubin
It isn’t every day that you see goalkeepers scoring goals – let alone goals as crucial as the last-minute header netted by Benfica’s Anatoliy Trubin.
The Ukrainian international climbed above everyone to power a headed effort into the back of the net in the last minute of the game. This result gave Benfica the boost they needed to reach the playoffs – and he scored it against Real Madrid, of all teams.
RB: Fredrik Sjøvold
Bodo/Glimt sprang another surprise when they picked up a massive away win over Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid – Fredrik Sjovold was arguably their star of the show.
He scored their first goal of the game to level things up against the Spanish giants, then put in a solid defensive shift to win the three points.
CB: Virgil van Dijk
Virgil van Dijk isn’t having the best season of his career, but his performance against Qarabag in midweek certainly couldn’t be faulted.
Not only did Van Dijk maintain a clean sheet against the Azerbaijani outfit, he also notched up a hattrick of assists along the way.
CB: Cristian Romero
A pattern is developing in Cristian Romero’s season – while the Argentinian World Cup winner has often struggled in the Premier League, he has thrived in the Champions League.
He handily kept Eintracht Frankfurt at bay, keeping a clean sheet for the Lilywhites – he also registered an assist along the way.
