Chelsea injury news ahead of Bayern Munich clash: six out and one doubt
Chelsea are due to take on Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich in the Champions League this evening. Who will the Blues be able to call upon?
With such a tough fixture on the horizon, Enzo Maresca would’ve hoped for a clean bill of health – however, his team could be mired with up to seven absentees. Who is set to miss out?
Injuries
Levi Colwill
Levi Colwill is a long-term absentee after he underwent surgery to fix an ACL injury. As such, it’s unlikely we’ll see him again until the end of the season.
Colwill went under the knife back in August – these types of operations often have very lengthy rehabilitation periods.
Liam Delap
Liam Delap picked up a hamstring injury during the Blues’ 2-0 win over Fulham last month. While he has avoided surgery, he is still expected to be out until December.
The earliest we could see Delap back is early November. However, with Joao Pedro in such fine form, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Maresca choose to wait as long as it takes – he won’t throw Delap back into the fray early.
Benoit Badiashile
Benoit Badiashile is currently suffering a hamstring injury – despite previous reports suggesting he would return at the start of September, he has yet to make a Premier League appearance for the Blues so far this season.
Instead, Badiashile is more likely to return at the end of the month – like Delap, Maresca is unlikely to want to rush him back into the starting XI.
Romeo Lavia
Romeo Lavia is expected to be back in action at around the same time as Badiashile, having suffered with a similar issue.
While he is back in training and seems fit to play, his lack of recent gametime means he may have work to do to reach match fitness.
Dario Essugo
Dario Essugo picked up a thigh injury while on international duty for Portugal and was forced to go under the knife as a result, which could significantly slow down his recovery time.
Due to this, it is currently unclear when Essugo will be able to play again – though he could make his retrun before the end of the 2025/26 season.
Injury doubts
Estevao
Estevao could be healthy enough to take on Bayern Munich tonight. He has been suffering with an undisclosed illness, but was seen in training on Tuesday.
As such, even if he does not make the starting XI, it seems likely that Estevao could have a part to play on Wednesday evening.
Other absentees
Mykhailo Mudryk
Mykhailo Mudryk will not play for Chelsea for the forseeable future, as he is undergoing a suspension following a doping violation.
It is unclear when this issue will be resolved – it is also unknown if Mudryk will ever adorn a Chelsea shirt again.
