Deal close – Chelsea close to transfer of star winger

Chelsea are closing in on the signing of long-term summer target Xavi Simons. The Blues are expected to submit an official proposal for the winger in the coming days.

Xavi Simons is decided on a move to Stamford Bridge and has even ditched discussions with Manchester City and Bayern Munich. The two European heavyweights have been keeping tabs on Xavi’s situation.

According to Goal.com Chelsea have outdone their rivals in the race to sign Xavi Simons and could very soon table an offer. The negotiating parties have agreed on personal terms as they seek to proceed with the transfer formalities.

Xavi Simons transfer developments

Despite long-standing negotiations between the two parties, Chelsea are treading patiently before they table an offer. The Blues have ‘promised’ to soon make an offer for Leipzig’s Dutch prodigy, Simons.

Despite the strong media speculation over a transfer away from the Bundesliga, Xavi Simons is most likely to feature in Leipzig’s opening fixture against Bayern Munich.

Leipzig have been vocal over the discussions of this transfer and have not shied away from the situation. The club’s sporting director, Marcel Schafer, has voiced his opinion on the transfer and even hinted that his club are not in any hurry to sell Simons.

Why are Chelsea cautious?

The Blues have been actively involved in the transfer market with several arrivals and departures at Stamford Bridge this summer. A deal for Xavi Simons could cost Enzo Maresca’s side £60 million.

Chelsea are stuck in a limbo of their own with a couple of other outbound transfers derailing the progress Maresca’s entourage have achieved in negotiations with Leipzig over Xavi Simons.

It is believed that Chelsea finds it fundamental to move on Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson before they can further in the transfer market. However, there is not much positive news on the front of Nkunku.

The French attackers’ move to Bayern Munich has nearly ‘collapsed’ after the Bavarian giants tried low-balling Chelsea with a loan offer. The Blues are keen on a permanent departure of Nkunku, another former Leipzig player.

The closing days of the transfer window could prove decisive in deciding Xavi Simons’ future. The player could be a worthy addition to Enzo Maresca’s plans at London this season.
