Done Deal – Aston Villa sign £30m striker

Aston Villa have completed the transfer of Evann Guessand from Ligue 1 outfit Nice. The striker will bolster the attacking options for Unai Emery.

The Villans have secured this signing for a transfer fee reported to be £30 million. The club will pay £26 million with the potential of £4.3 million in add-ons.

Ollie Watkins was the only striker at Unai Emery’s disposal and the arrival of Guessand will relieve the pressure on him massively. Aston Villa were unable to hold onto Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio, who had arrived on loan at the club last season.

Villa’s 2nd Summer Signing

Villa Park will be jubilant and excited about their second summer signing in Guessand. Shotstopper, Marco Bizot, is the only other recruit at Aston Villa this transfer window.

The club is required to comply with the financial rules of UEFA and the Premier League, and thereby are unable to flex their muscle in the transfer market.

The club had breached UEFA’s squad cost ratio rules and were sanctioned by UEFA earlier this summer. Additionally, a £9.5 million fine was also levied on the club.

What did Evann Guessand have to say?

The new signing from Nice will be a lively addition to the Villa attack force. The Ivory Cost international displayed amazing form and goal scoring consistency in the French league. The player earned the title of player of the season after helping his side finish in the 4th place and scoring 12 goals in the process.

The player was delighted after securing his move to Villa Park. Expressing his happiness, he stated –

“When I heard the club wanted me I didn’t think twice,

I’m ready to give my all. Every game, every kick, every minute.”

Going by numbers, Guessand could be deployed by Unai Emery across the front line in various positions. Marcus Rashford was a similar player for the side last season. It remains to be seen if the gaffer can put together his preferred formation in time for the Premier League opener against Newcastle United next week.
