Report: Everton plotting move for England winger
Everton could be eyeing up a move for Manchester City and England winger Jack Grealish. The winger could arrive at the Toffee’s brand new Hill Dickinson Stadium on a loan move for the upcoming campaign.
The player has been extensively linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium this summer given his lack of form and appearances last term seemingly losing the trust of Cityzens manager Pep Guardiola.
It is understood by Essential Football that City’s Spanish boss is adamant on shrinking his squad size before the 2025/26 season commences.
Jack Grealish and his World Cup ambitions
The English international has considerably fallen down the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium. Omar Marmoush, Rayan Cherki, Phil Foden, Savinho and Jeremy Doku have all been preferred over the services of Grealish by Guardiola and this reflects in the winger’s declining game time.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is scheduled for next year, and Grealish definitely has plans to represent the England lions on the world stage in the mega event.
That being said, failing to feature regularly, along with inconsistent from, will be detrimental in Thomas Tuchel deciding if Grealish will travel to the United States of America next year.
The Everton perspective
We must address the elephant in the room, Jack Grealish and his enormous salary – being one of the highest paid footballers in the Premier League. Implying that any team seeking for his services would need to take a heavy hit to their pocket.
It is also understood that the Toffees could be willing to pay a loan fee to complete the loan move but will need assistance from Manchester City in regards to the salary payments for the services of Grealish.
Rumours suggest Manchester City could also be convinced of a permanent transfer for Grealish if an offer in the region of £40 million arrives but this might be a little rich for the Toffees.
A good fit at Everton?
The Toffees will be moving into their new stadium, and it could just be the ideal atmosphere for Grealish to revive his career. The arrival of a new ownership group last December has also kept the Everton faithful optimistic and hopeful.
Everton gaffer David Moyes, is also fond of the former Aston Villa man. Back in February 2021 when Grealish was playing for the Villans, he was described as the ‘best player in the Premier League’ by David Moyes.
