Fantasy Premier League: FPL Winners & Losers
Fantasy Premier League is now over until after Christmas. Before you lift up that glass of Bailey’s, how is your FPL team looking in the festive season?
Teams such as Arsenal, Aston Villa and Leeds United will be feeling festive – meanwhile, Christmas might be cancelled for fans of Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Regardless, who were this weekend’s best individual performers?
Goalkeepers
There were a few high-scoring goalkeepers in Fantasy Premier League, but no one could match the 13 points total that Caoimhin Kelleher took home.
Putting in a top performance against Wolves, he picked up a pair of bonus points and collected a clean sheet for Brentford. Additionally, Bart Verbruggen and Robin Roefs also looked strong, as they each made a smattering of saves in a 0-0 draw against each other.
Dean Henderson had a game to forget for Crystal Palace, however. The Eagles have been relatively safe at the back this season, but Leeds United were able to put four goals beyond the former Manchester United ‘keeper at Elland Road.
Defenders
This week’s top FPL player was an unlikely suspect – Keane Lewis-Potter scored twice and picked up a clean sheet to take home an outstanding total of 21 points. Despite playing as a winger in the game, FPL still has Lewis-Potter down as a defender.
He was this week’s most successful defender by an absolute chasm, but Piero Hincapie, Trai Hume and Antonee Robinson each bagged ten points as well.
On the other hand, Malo Gusto suffered a real hero to zero moment at the weekend. In the previous gameweek, the Frenchman collected a total of 18 points – this week, however, two conceded goals and a yellow card meant he went home with -1 points. Additionally, both Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven picked up zero points when Spurs were defeated by Liverpool.
Midfielders
Once again, Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers was unstoppable against Manchester United. A pair of wonder goals gave him a very healthy total of 15 points, making him this week’s top FPL midfielder.
Leeds United’s Ethan Ampadu was a bit of a surprise package – he is selected by just 0.1% of FPL players, but was able to net a very healthy total of 12 points.
Xavi Simons, meanwhile, was this week’s biggest loser for picking up a red card against Chelsea – for this infraction, the Dutch international was hit with a total of -2.
Forwards
We feel like this often goes without saying – Erling Haaland, once again, was the highest scoring forward in FPL this weekend. He scored twice and notched up an assist to give himself a typically enormous points total of 16.
Nick Woltemade managed to turn his fortunes around after he scored an own goal against Sunderland in the Wear-Tyne Derby, as he found the back of the net (the right one this time) twice against Chelsea. Likewise, Dominic Calvert-Lewin also scored a brace, as they both took home 13 points.
While there were no outstandingly poor performers among the strikers in the Premier League this week, we’ll nominate Jarrod Bowen as our biggest loser. He picked up just a single point against Manchester City, which makes his price tag of £7.6m difficult to justify.
