Key injury update on Chelsea star ahead of Man Utd clash
Cole Palmer put up a brilliant display against Bayern Munich, despite his side’s 3-1 defeat in their opening UEFA Champions League fixture. The forward grabbed attention in the game’s closing minutes as he held onto his inner leg in discomfort.
Interestingly, Cole Palmer returned from a groin injury for this fixture, and Enzo Maresca was confident that he could last the ninety minutes. Chelsea were unable to assert their dominance in Bavaria and returned to London with zero points on the table.
During his 100th appearance for the Blues on Wednesday night, Palmer scored an amazing goal and nearly bagged another before it was ruled out for offside. However, his spirited performance was not enough to pull Chelsea across the finish line.
Should Chelsea’s faithful be worried?
Palmer was vibrant and set the game alive with his zeal and determination. Maresca’s decision to let the star play the entire game raised eyebrows, considering his return from a groin struggle. As the game was drawing to a close, Palmer grabbed his inner leg and bent forward in what looked like a display of pain. Chelsea would have felt helpless at the prospect of losing their main man again at such an early stage in the season.
However, Chelsea gaffer Enzo Maresca addressed the press following the defeat in Germany and shed light on the injury concerns regarding Cole Palmer. The Chelsea tactician dismissed suggestions that Palmer could return to the sick-bay again and stated that the Englishman was indeed alright. Enzo Maresca has been quoted as saying by the Metro –
“Cole, I think, is okay. He said he was okay.”

What did Cole Palmer say about his European outing?
The 23-year-old attacker put in the hard yards for his team and deserved credit for the display put up by Chelsea against Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich. Palmer expressed his displeasure at the result in the post-match presser. Palmer believes that Chelsea were not too far away from producing the winning result at Allianz Arena, and only momentary lapses in concentration affected their chances. The player has been quoted as saying –
“Yeah I feel like we deserved more, to be honest,’ he told TNT Sports. ‘We started well, we had the chances to score but when you make mistakes at the highest level it’s always difficult to come back in any game.
Just a bit of lack of concentration and not managing the moments correctly. But I think we’ve shown we can play against one of the best teams in the competition. I think we deserved more.
The manager said to us before he knows we can go toe-to-toe and I think we showed that despite the result. We just need to kick on from here.”
