Jamie Vardy could be a canny signing for newly promoted Sunderland

Former Sunderland man Don Hutchison believes the Black Cats’ survival chances would be boosted with the arrival of Premier League legend Vardy.

As Sunderland prepares to return to the promised land of the Premier League for the first time since the 2016/17 season, former player Don Hutchison reckons that Regis le Bris young team could benefit from the experience of legendary striker Jamie Vardy.

The 38-year-old shows no sign of slowing down – perhaps thats the Red Bull – and managed to register nine goals in thirty-five Premier League appearances as Leicester City tumbled out of the Premier League and into the Championship.

With reported interest from the likes of Scottish giants Rangers and fellow Premier League new boys Leeds United, Hutchison has urged his old club to snap up free agent Vardy, saying in a recent interview:

“Jamie Vardy is someone who would massively suit a move to Sunderland. I think Wilson Isidor is an excellent player who’s already at Sunderland, and they’re building a decent team there.

“But what sides need when they get to the Premier League is someone who has been there and done it. Vardy’s won the league before, he’s always scored goals. After leaving Leicester, he’ll be chomping at the bit to show that he can still do it.”

Hutchison has history with Sunderland

Hutchison, who helped Sunderland to a seventh-placed finish in the Premier League in the 00/01 season and scored 8 goals during his time in the North East, even crunched the numbers for Sunderland chairman and majority owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, who happens to be the youngest club chief in Premier League history at 28-years-old.

“They might need to juggle the contract, give him £50 grand a week and maybe the same again for a win bonus to make it work, to give him an extra incentive. If they give him a bonus if they stay up, that could work too. I think for Vardy, Sunderland are a really good fit for him,” Hutchison said.
