Amorim handed positive injury update before Chelsea clash
Manchester United have been handed a positive injury boost ahead of their clash against Chelsea, scheduled for this weekend. Long-term absentee, Lisandro Martinez has made considerable progress from his injury and is edging closer to a full-fledged comeback into the Red Devils side.
Ruben Amorim’s team have started the season on a poor note with only a few positives to highlight. Manchester United are far away from the top of the table and are placed in 14th position with only one win to their credit. To make things trickier, the Red Devils are scheduled to play host to Chelsea in the 5:30pm Saturday kick-off at Old Trafford.
Will Martinez be back in time for Chelsea fixture?
The Argentinian defender has been missing in action since last season. In February, during a Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, Martinez ruptured his ACL and has since spent time recovering from the serious injury. Martinez went under the knife later that month, marking the beginning of his long road to recovery.
The central defender recently shared a picture on the social media platform, Instagram. Martinez was out on the pitch and training in his boots. After spending almost seven months on the sidelines, this would be a welcome sight for the Old Trafford faithful.

It would be nearly impossible for the player to regain fitness in time for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea. Recovering from ACL injuries is not easy, and Martinez will have to put in the hard hours before making a full return to the Manchester United squad.
The medical team at Old Trafford will continue to monitor his progress and will only call him to the team when they are assured of his complete recovery. He could possibly appear on the bench and even that would be a positive sign for the struggling club.
Difficult times for Ruben Amorim but he remains defiant
The news of Martinez’s return comes at a crucial time for Ruben Amorim, who is under immense pressure at Old Trafford following a torrid start to the season. The overall output and display are disappointing after a massive spending spree in the transfer market. Despite entirely revamping their attack, Manchester United have only scored one goal from open play this season in the Premier League.
The past weekend was awful for the Portuguese gaffer as his side were hammered 3-0 at the hands of Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. Amorim is still confident in his tactics and game plans, and confirmed to the press about his trust in the 3-4-3 system. The Manchester United boss has been quoted as saying by the Daily Mail –
“I am not going to change. When I want to change my philosophy, I will change. If not, you have to change the man.
Losing faith in your ability to turn the situation around? No, that is not the way. I believe in my way and I am going to play my way until I want to change.
My message (to the fans) is that I am going to give everything, always thinking about what is best for the club. The rest is not my decision. Until I am here, I will do my best. I really want to win games.”

Amorim enjoys the confidence of the Manchester United hierarchy at the moment. However, things could soon turn south if results do not improve as the season progresses. The English media has already been buzzing with reports claiming that the gaffer could be marching towards the exit doors soon in Manchester.
