Julian Alvarez breaks his silence over Liverpool move

Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez has decided to speak up regarding the rumours that were linking him with a move to Liverpool in the summer. The Reds eventually went on to sign the duo of Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak after unsuccessful talks with the Madrid-based team during the transfer window.

Julian Alvarez has let his feet do the talking, and has dazzled in La Liga this season. The forward scored two amazing goals in the Madrid derby that helped Atletico Madrid win 5-2 over their arch rivals. This is the Argentine attacker’s second season in the Spanish top flight, having arrived from Manchester City last season in a staggering £81.8 million deal.

Details about Alvarez’s transfer

According to a report published by the Mirror, Alvarez’s transfer to the Premier League with Liverpool could still be on the cards in the future.

Liverpool’s summer spending was not impacted by not bringing in the Argentine as they went on to sign Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt and Alexander Isak from Newcastle United. Addressing speculation concerning his future, Julian Alvarez and his representative have issued statements that would have reassured the Metropolitano faithful.

What did Alvarez say?

The Argentine displayed his commitment to Atletico Madrid by quashing all the media chatter linking him away from the Spanish capital. The player has been quoted as saying:

“I’m very calm. There’s always talk but the truth is that the season is just starting now. My focus is on improving every day, win for Atlético. That’s the only thing on my mind… social media stories are beyond me.”

Julian Alvarez’s agent, Fernando Hidalgo, also discussed the summer situation and emphasised the fact that Diego Simeone did not want to part ways with his sensational forward. Hidalgo has been quoted as saying:

“There were no official offers from Liverpool to sign Julian last season, and everything that has been said in this regard is false.

Last summer, there were no offers because Atletico de Madrid didn’t want to sell the player, so negotiations didn’t take place.”

Liverpool are not the only club that have been attributed with interest in the attacker. Alvarez’s 29 goals across all competitions in his debut season in Spain did not go unnoticed by Barcelona. The La Liga giants are also keeping tabs on the situation of Alvarez and might go head-to-head with Liverpool for his signature in the future. Alvarez would be keen on building on his good start to the season when Atleti face Celta Vigo in La Liga this weekend.
