Liverpool ‘ready’ to buy Ecuadorian Stopper to replace Konate

Liverpool are preparing to upgrade their defence as early as the January transfer window. The centre back pairing of Virgil Van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté have not yet hit top form for the Reds this season.

Liverpool have struggled miserably in recent fixtures and have amassed five defeats in their last six games. Arne Slot will be extremely disappointed after witnessing his side slip to the seventh position in the points standings in the Premier League.

Latest reports from the English press suggest that Liverpool are determined to make improvements to their squad in the upcoming winter window, with defence being a key area of concern. Arne Slot’s team were extremely close to landing Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, but the deal collapsed on deadline day.

What are Liverpool planning?

Ibrahima Konate’s poor performances, along with him being in the last year of his contract at Anfield, compel the Liverpool hierarchy to hunt for a reliable central defender to successfully defend the Premier League title. Giovanni Leoni was another central defender added to the Reds squad in the extravagant summer outing. However, his debut for Liverpool against Southampton was cut short when he injured his ACL.

Collapsed deal for Guehi, Konate’s poor run, and a lengthy injury to Giovanni Leoni have compelled Liverpool to seek alternatives with urgency. Arne Slot and his men can not afford to further fall adrift this season.

What is the potential solution for Liverpool?

According to a report published by renowned South American outlet, Bola, Liverpool are eyeing up a move for Club Brugge’s defensive star, Joel Ordonez. The Ecuadorian defender has attracted interest due to his solid performances in defence.

Ordonez was close to securing a move to the French Ligue 1 with Marseille before prolonging his stay in Belgium by signing a new contract with Club Brugge.

The Reds would have to part with roughly £35 million in January to secure the services of Joel Ordonez from Club Brugge. Given Liverpool’s limited options in defence and the desire to defend the Premier League title, the addition of a quality defender like Ordonez could be of huge benefit to the Anfield-based team.
