Liverpool star’s exit could be the difference in Isak pursuit
Luis Diaz is heading for the exit doors at Anfield with a transfer imminent to Bavarian giants, Bayern Munich.
Reliable sources at the BBC confirm that Liverpool and Bayern Munich have agreed on a transfer fee in the region of £65.5 million.
Liverpool have given the go ahead to the player for him to fly from Tokyo to Europe to complete his impending medical examination before the transfer is officially announced.
Long running saga
The two parties have been heavily linked with each other since the beginning of the transfer window. Luis Diaz has been reportedly unhappy at Anfield as the attacker feels that he is not been paid proportionately in comparison to the rest of the squad – including new arrivals like Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike.
With only 2 years left on his contract and failed renewal attempts with Liverpool in the past, Diaz’s ideal move would be to embark on a new chapter in his footballing career. A bright new chapter awaits the forward at Bayern Munich.
Diaz did not feature in Liverpool’s preseason friendly against AC Milan in Hong Kong – raising heavy speculation that a transfer could be confirmed in the coming days.

Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot spoke to the media before the AC Milan game on Saturday and was quoted as saying by Sky Sports about Diaz –
“One of the positions that we didn’t have was a No 9.
We had one, Hugo [Ekitike], but he wasn’t ready to play yet. Darwin was injured. Lucho [Luis Diaz] couldn’t play as well.
In Lucho’s situation it was, yeah [the reason why he was left out].
There’s a lot of rumours around him lately and I cannot go into that. He’s training well with us but we have decided, for now, not to play him yet.”
“I’m used to talking to most of my players on a regular basis. Like I said, Lucho is training really well and we’ve decided that he’s not playing at the moment in the games. I cannot comment much more about that.”
Diaz in the Bundesliga
Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich will be delighted with the arrival of the Colombian striker. The Bavarians will be without the services of Jamal Musiala who picked up a serious injury to his ankle at the recently concluded Club World Cup.
Diaz could be a lethal force in the attacking third, and might provide the edge that Bayern seems to be missing on the European front in the last few seasons.
He will hopefully be able to link up with Harry Kane and lighten the burden on the England captain’s goal scoring.
From Liverpool’s perspective they knew Diaz was not totally happy and it was an open secret regarding his position on his wages so they have been planning for his exit. The incoming transfer fee will be invaluable as they are heavily linked with a move for Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and might well be the difference to their budget for his transfer.
Should the Reds land Isak you would expect this to more than compensate for the loss of Diaz and put them in a very strong position ahead of the new campaign.
