Liverpool on the brink of announcing two deadline-day defensive transfers

Liverpool are on course to finalise two more transfer moves on deadline day after completing the Isak deal: Marc Guehi arriving from Crystal Palace and Joe Gomez departing for AC Milan. Arne Slot will be delighted with this last-minute transfer business as he seeks to defend the Premier League title this season.

Crystal Palace skipper Marc Guehi has been on the transfer wish list of Liverpool for a prolonged period of time and if he is to leave London then he left them with a beautiful gift as he curled in the team’s 2nd goal vs Aston Villa in the 3-0 away win.

The England international has attracted attention from the Premier League heavyweights after consistent performances in the heart of England and Crystal Palace’s defence. As reported by Essential Football before, the player has also been subject to interest from Liverpool’s title rivals, Manchester City, in recent weeks.

More deadline day drama at Anfield

Fabrizio Romano has provided updates on some latest developments in the transfer story. According to Romano, Liverpool will be making a massive push on deadline day to seal the transfer of Guehi, who has entered the final twelve months of his contract at Selhurst Park.

The player himself is keen on making the switch to Anfield, where the centre-back situation is developing. Ibrahima Konate is in the final year of his Liverpool contract and could likely be replaced long-term by Guehi under the tutelage of Arne Slot.

As per Romano, Guehi has now informed the top brass at Crystal Palace that he will not be renewing his contract at the club if they fail to let him leave this summer. The club are now left in a dire situation with not much time by their side to make arrangements for Marc Guehi.

The club will not only lose their main centre-back but also its captain. It remains to be seen how Oliver Glasner deals with this situation should Liverpool emerge victorious in the transfer negotiations.

Potential sale of Joe Gomez

Despite earning high recognition from Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez has failed to live up to expectations at Anfield Stadium. Since arriving at the club 10 years ago, Gomez has not managed to nail down a place in the starting eleven for himself.

The interest from AC Milan arrives at the right time for Gomez, who can now embark on a new journey in his career. Liverpool have already received their proposal from the Milan-based team and will provide the green light to the deal once it can secure the services of Marc Guehi.
