Liverpool now linked with Araujo signing instead of Guehi
Liverpool may now be focusing their resources on a move for Barcelona’s reliable defender and captain, Ronald Araujo shifting away from summer target Marc Guehi.
The Reds’ ‘perfect’ summer transfer window outing was spoiled by Crystal Palace. The London-based club took a last-minute decision to withdraw from the negotiations in the deal, all while Marc Guehi was undergoing his Liverpool medical on deadline day. Only letting the Anfield faithful settle for the transfer of Alexander Isak on the evening of 1st September.
From nearly signing Marc Guehi to now seeking alternatives in the market, things have taken a dramatic turn for Arne Slot. The Reds will now face increased competition from other suitors across Europe, with some interesting developments in the transfer market.
Why are Liverpool moving their attention to other options?
Marc Guehi has entered the last twelve months of his contract at Selhurst Park. Crystal Palace will likely lose their star defender on a free transfer at the end of the season, unless the club are able to convince Guehi to ink a new contract or they sell him in January.
If Guehi remains adamant and does not budge on the new deal, foreign clubs will be able to enter negotiations with the Englishman in January.
Liverpool will now head into negotiations with a disadvantage, having to wait until the end of the season or face off against serious opposition. Liverpool cannot be entirely ruled out of the transfer race to sign Marc Guehi, but will no longer share the commanding position they once enjoyed.
Which other suitors have emerged for Guehi?
Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are reportedly keeping tabs on Guehi at the moment and will pounce as soon as the year turns. Los Blancos have mastered the art of conducting shrewd business in the transfer market, with several players signed (Antonio Rudiger, Kylian Mbappe, Trent Alexander-Arnold) in recent memory on free transfers.
For Barcelona, if they lose Araujo to Liverpool as reported by Football365, they will seek a replacement in Marc Guehi. Hansi Flick will welcome the arrival of Guehi with open arms as his team lacks bench depth this season but would need him desperately if Aruaujo was to leave.

Can Liverpool sign Ronald Araujo?
Liverpool’s interest in Ronald Araujo could result in another massive transfer saga in next summer’s window. The Uruguayan defender has freshly signed a massive six-year deal at Barcelona.
Araujo’s new contract runs until June 2031 and also includes a staggering release clause of €1 billion. Given these conditions, Liverpool will need to break the bank in order to prise Barca’s captain away.

There are a lot of things that need to fall in place if these two proposed transfers are to take place next summer. It remains to be seen if Liverpool are able to outdo other clubs in the quest for Guehi or outsmart Barcelona in transfer talks for Araujo. Arne Slot has certainly assembled an amazing squad at his disposal but adding another top central defender is a need he must address.
