Man Utd, Newcastle & Tottenham ready for transfer race to sign Ter Stegen

Barcelona’s Marc-André Ter Stegen has come on the radars of several Premier League clubs. The goalkeeper was in the spotlight throughout the summer as drama unfolded around his injury concerns, captaincy and future at the Camp Nou stadium.

Reports emerging claim that the German shot stopper could soon make the switch from Spain to England. The trio of Manchester United, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in the experienced Barcelona goalkeeper. Goal.com believes that a transfer in the upcoming January window could be on the cards.

It remains to be seen if the Catalan outfit are willing to let Ter Stegen leave on a temporary move, but it remains a strong possibility. Ligue 1 giants, Monaco, are also believed to be keeping tabs on the situation surrounding the German at the Catalan capital. Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is not too impressed by Ter Stegen’s recent injury concerns and poor form.

Public fallout at Barcelona this summer

The two parties were at loggerheads earlier this summer, and the dispute went as far as Marc Andre Ter Stegen being removed as the club’s captain. The goalkeeper picked up an injury in July 2025, and the Catalan side wanted him to sign long-term injury leave papers, as it would aid the club in freeing up space on the wage bill. Ter Stegen was not convinced about the decision taken by the top brass at the club, as his injury recovery schedule only pointed towards three months on the sidelines. The dispute was eventually solved through dialogue, with the German being reinstated as the club captain. However, this drama has definitely soured the relationship between Ter Stegen and Barcelona club chiefs.

Interest pouring in from the Premier League

The situation surrounding Ter Stegen at Barcelona has alerted Premier League teams. The German player has become a trending topic in the transfer world ahead of the January window.

Manchester United could massively benefit from the arrival of a calm and composed figure like Ter Stegen between the sticks and could follow in the footsteps of former Barcelona goalie Victor Valdes.

Newcastle United could also benefit from the arrival of a player of Ter Stegen’s abilities and will provide depth behind Nick Pope.

With the winter window fast approaching, all eyes will be on Ter Stegen, who is expected to make his return from injury in November. At 33 years of age, it will be interesting to see how Barcelona deal with the situation when concrete offers arrive in January. Barcelona signed Joan Garcia from cross-town rivals Espanyol over the summer to fill the void created in the goalkeeping department.
