Man Utd close to completing £26m signing linked with Arsenal

Manchester United are in pole position to land Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoume on a permanent transfer this summer. The player was also linked with a move to Arsenal this window.

Manchester United got their Premier League campaign underway this weekend with a 0-1 loss at home against Arsenal. Ruben Amorim was visibly perplexed by the lack of midfield options on offer to him at Old Trafford.

Lucien Agoume could be a worthy addition to Amorim’s plans at Manchester this season. Credible sources at Metro confirm that Manchester United are in the driver’s seat to secure the signing of Agoume. The club are in a race against time with the window set to close on September 1st.

What’s cooking at United?

The Red Devils have weighed up different options in midfield and were also massively interested in signing Carlos Baleba from Brighton and Hove Albion. However, the club were forced to seek answers in different directions as they did not agree on the massive £100 million asking price.

The Red Devils have already forked out £200 million this summer, and the signing of Baleba would have left them massively stretched financially. It is understood that Ruben Amorim & Co. could once again go hunting for Baleba next summer.

Transfer to Old Trafford

La Liga heavyweights, Sevilla, are well aware of the true potential of their asset. The club could be willing to entertain offers of £26 million despite the 23-year-old having a release clause of £35 million.

Sevilla paid £10 million to sign the player nearly a year earlier from Inter Milan. The Milan club also have a 50% sell-on clause, implying that they receive 50% of the transfer fees that Sevilla will sell the player for – another factor that could play a role in the conclusion of the deal.

In United’s loss at the hands of Arsenal, Ruben Amorim could only rely on Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes in the centre of the pitch. Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo were the Portuguese gaffers’ only two options off the bench.
