Transfer latest – goalkeeper deal seemingly close at the Etihad

Manchester City are reportedly keeping tabs on Burnley’s man between the sticks. The Citizens could be compelled to make a move for the goalie with Ederson seemingly on the verge of securing a move to Turkey.

Galatasaray have emerged as potential suitors for the Brazilian goalie. The Turkish side are unbothered by the fact that Ederson has just a single year left on his contract at the Etihad. Galatasaray might see this as an ideal opportunity to secure the services of the gloveman at a discounted price.

However, Ederson maintained a firm stance during the recently concluded Club World Cup that he would be staying put at Manchester City and seeing out his contract at least. Some reports contradict this and have claimed that talks have been held between the 31 year old goalie and the Istanbul based club.

Who could be the new Man City goalkeeper?

It is understood that Manchester City added a buy back clause in the deal that saw James Trafford join the Clarets in 2023. Premier League rivals, Newcastle United have also displayed interest in the shot stopper.

Trafford had a brilliant season at Turf Moor for Burnley last season and was a big reason why the club managed by Scott Parker are back in the Premier League as his shot stopping ability was unrivalled.

Manchester City have been busy in the summer transfer window and have seen the arrivals of 5 players already thus far. If reports are to be believed a sixth signing could well be on the cards in the form of a goalkeeper.

Why could Ederson be on the move?

A decision to leave Manchester will draw the curtains on Ederson’s 8 year career at Manchester City where he won six Premier League titles, one Champions League title, two FA Cups and 4 EFL Cups.

Moving him on now will bring in some valuable money and with Stefan Ortega showing he is more than capable. It seems as though Pep thinks having a younger hungrier keeper is what he wants to have in tandem with the German international.

The loss of an experienced goalie in Ederson, who had exceptional capabilities with the ball at his feat will surely pinch tactician Pep Guardiola.  Liverpool’s victory in the Premier League will make the task of bouncing back extremely difficult for the Citizens in the absence of Ederson.
