Amorim could get sacked after Sunderland clash
Sunderland are set to make the trip to Old Trafford this weekend to square off against Manchester United. This Premier League matchday 7 fixture could have severe implications for both teams and could be Ruben Amorim’s last game as the Red Devils boss.
Manchester United’s poor start to the season has put the Portuguese gaffer under tremendous pressure. Results have not gone Amorim’s way, and the Old Trafford faithful have started to grow increasingly frustrated over the shabby results. A victory against the Black Cats this weekend would be the bare minimum for the Red Devils’ supporters.
However, Amorim’s time in Manchester could soon be coming to an end if his team are not able to pull their act together this weekend. The knives are out for the former Sporting Lisbon boss, with daily media reports suggesting that this could well be his last game in charge of the team.
Sunderland’s brilliant form – major reason for worry
The Black Cats return to the English top flight after a considerable absence of eight years and will want to make their presence felt. Sunderland have started the season brilliantly, sitting 5th in the table with eleven points on the board. Regis Le Bris’s men have grown in stature as the season has progressed and churned out the positive results for their relatively inexperienced manager. The Black Cats took another scalp by beating Nottingham Forest last weekend and are a well-organised outfit who continue to surprise the established order of the Premier League.
Manchester United’s poor run in 2026/26
Ruben Amorim was given a lot of consideration and leeway last year, as several football pundits believed it was not fair to draw judgments based on the performances of Manchester United after he took charge midway through the season. However, the Portuguese enjoyed the summer transfer window from the driver’s seat and orchestrated a summer spend of over £200 million and is understandably under considerable pressure to get his new recruits clicking.
Results are yet to arrive and the team have looked extremely lacklustre. The Red Devils are placed 14th in the Premier League and have already exited the Carabao Cup following a defeat to League Two side Grimsby Town. Yikes! Amorim’s men were also extremely disappointing in their 3-1 defeat at the hands of Brentford.
