La Liga transfer to be announced soon – good move from Howe?

Newcastle United’s goalkeeper, Odysseas Vlachodimos, is likely heading to Spain with Sevilla interested in securing his services.

The Greek international will be joining the Andalucian side on a temporary move after falling down the pecking order at St James’ Park. Reliable sources at the BBC claim that Odysseas Vlachodimos has given the green light for the transfer.

Post a medical at Seville this week, a formal transfer could be announced between the two parties. It remains to be seen if Sevilla will include an option to buy at the end of the loan deal.

Torrid times in the Premier League

The player arrived at St James’ Park from Nottingham Forest last summer for a transfer fee of £20 million. Despite expectations from the Newcastle supporters, the shotstopper failed to convince manager Eddie Howe he deserved regular and consistent game time.

Vlachodimos managed only a solitary appearance for the Magpies and will soon be receiving his marching orders for his move to Sevilla. Nottingham signed a Newcastle United player too, with Elliot Anderson moving for a fee of £35 million.

The transfer deal was subject to media scrutiny as it is believed that the deal actually materialised as Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest tried to stay on the right side of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

After failing to displace Nick Pope between the sticks last season, Vlachodimos must have felt an even mightier uphill battle after the Magpies announced the signing of Aaron Ramsdale on loan from Southampton. Ramsdale is expected to play second fiddle to Pope at Newcastle this season.

New team offers an opportunity for Vlachodimos

After a season to forget at Newcastle United, Vlachodimos’ career has been given the breath of fresh air it needed with a transfer to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium on the cards.

The La Liga side have been on the hunt for a reliable man between the sticks for the 2025/26 season. The Greek international could be a worthy addition to Matías Almeyda’s plans at the Andalucian capital.

The departure will ease up the space at St James’ Park and allow the English club to focus its resources into finding a suitable replacement for Alexander Isak, who is likely to join last season’s winners, Liverpool.
