The Premier League match between Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur at St James’ Park on 4th October 1997 was marked by an unusual incident. As the second half commenced, Tottenham found themselves at a disadvantage, starting with only nine players on the pitch. This unusual occurrence added a memorable twist to the day’s football action.

4th October 2014

On 4th October 2014, Newcastle United fans expressed their dissatisfaction with their manager, Alan Pardew, in a creative manner during a Premier League away match against Swansea City. They unveiled a banner that read, ‘Not a Welsh town, our form in 2014’, highlighting the team’s poor performance throughout the year, which was characterised by a series of losses and draws. The banner quickly gained attention in the media, although some newspapers focused on listing Welsh towns without vowels. The match ended in a 2-2 draw, adding another ‘D’ to Newcastle’s record. Despite the protests, Pardew remained in his position for another three months before moving to Crystal Palace.
