Michael Andrew Johnston, born on 19 April 1999 in Glasgow, is a talented winger currently plying his trade with EFL Championship club West Bromwich Albion. Known for his agility and pace on the flank, Johnston has established himself as a valuable asset in the competitive world of football, representing the Republic of Ireland at the international level.

Johnston began his professional career at Celtic, where he made an immediate impact by debuting for the first team on 6 May 2017 in a commanding 4–1 victory over St Johnstone. This debut marked the start of an exciting journey with his boyhood club, culminating in a new three-year contract shortly after. His first goal for Celtic arrived in December 2018 during a 3–0 triumph against Motherwell, and he further showcased his talent on the European stage with a memorable strike against Stade Rennais in the UEFA Europa League in November 2019. Despite his potential, Johnston's time at Celtic was marred by injuries that hindered his progress, particularly during the 2019–20 and 2020–21 seasons, limiting his appearances as new signings pushed him further down the pecking order.

In search of regular first-team football, Johnston embarked on a loan spell to Vitória de Guimarães in the summer of 2022. This move proved crucial for his development, allowing him to gain valuable experience and confidence on the pitch. He continued to make strides in his game before returning to the UK, where he joined West Bromwich Albion on loan in 2024, aiming to make a significant impact in the Championship.

Johnston’s career, which began at the age of 18, reflects a player working tirelessly to overcome adversity and fulfil his potential. With a promising future ahead, he remains a player to watch as he looks to establish himself in the competitive landscape of English football while continuing to represent the Republic of Ireland on the international stage.
