Bruno Fernandes is a Portuguese midfielder renowned for his creativity, leadership and consistent impact at both club and international level. Over the course of his career he has established himself as one of the most influential playmakers of his generation.
Fernandes began his football journey in the Infesta youth academy before moving to Italy to start his professional career. He joined Novara in 2012, making 23 appearances and scoring 4 goals in his debut season. His promise quickly attracted attention and in 2013 he signed for Udinese, where he played 86 matches and found the net 10 times across three seasons. A further move within Serie A followed in 2016 as he joined Sampdoria, adding 33 appearances and 5 goals in a single campaign.
The next step of Fernandes' career came with a return to Portugal in 2017 when he signed for Sporting CP. It was in Lisbon that he truly flourished, becoming the focal point of the team with 83 league appearances and an impressive tally of 39 goals. His influence helped Sporting to domestic silverware, lifting the Taça de Portugal in 2018-19 and winning the Taça da Liga in consecutive seasons. In January 2020 he made a high-profile transfer to Manchester United, where he has since become a central figure. By 2025 he had accumulated 198 appearances and scored 63 goals, contributing to the club's FA Cup triumph in 2023-24, the EFL Cup success in 2022-23, and reaching two UEFA Europa League finals.
On the international stage, Fernandes progressed steadily through Portugal's youth ranks from under-19 to under-23 level before making his senior debut in 2017. He has since earned 80 caps and scored 25 goals for the national team. His international honours include two UEFA Nations League titles, in 2018-19 and 2024-25, underlining his importance to Portugal on the biggest stage.
