Francesco Acerbi

Francesco Acerbi's journey from the lower tiers of Italian football to becoming a stalwart in Serie A is a testament to his resilience and determination. Born on 10 February 1988 in Vizzolo Predabissi, Lombardy, Acerbi made his professional debut at just 18 years old with Pavia in 2006. His early career saw him progress through the ranks, culminating in a move to Reggina in 2010, where he began to make his mark in Serie B.

In 2011, Acerbi's talent caught the attention of Chievo, where he made the leap to Serie A. His potential was further recognised during a brief loan spell at AC Milan in 2012. However, the subsequent years would test his mettle as he returned to Chievo on loan and then made a permanent switch to Sassuolo. Unfortunately, his debut season was cut short as he battled through treatment for testicular cancer, a personal challenge that he overcame, returning to the pitch in 2014 stronger than ever.

Acerbi's career took a significant turn in 2018 when he joined Lazio. Here, he enjoyed considerable success, lifting the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana in 2020, showcasing his defensive prowess and leadership qualities. His move to Inter Milan in 2022 marked a new chapter, where he continued to excel, contributing to the team's Serie A triumph and further cup successes, including another Coppa Italia and two Supercoppa Italiana titles in 2023. Additionally, he played a key role in Inter reaching the UEFA Champions League finals in both 2023 and 2025.

On the international stage, Acerbi has represented Italy since 2019, earning three caps and playing a part in the squad that triumphed at UEFA Euro 2020. Known for his robust defending and tactical awareness, Acerbi has established himself as a central figure in both club and international football, proving that with perseverance, one can overcome even the toughest challenges.
