Marcus Tavernier

Marcus Joseph Tavernier, born on 22 March 1999 in Leeds, is an emerging talent in English football, captivating fans with his dynamic play as a midfielder for Premier League club Bournemouth. Known for his versatility on the pitch, Tavernier can operate both as a midfielder and a winger, showcasing his adaptability and skill in various attacking roles.

Tavernier’s football journey began when he joined Middlesbrough’s academy at the under-14 level after initially playing for Newcastle United. He quickly made his mark in the youth ranks, becoming a regular in the Premier League 2 and even featuring in the UEFA Youth League. His professional debut came at just 17 years old during the EFL Cup, where he started in a 3–0 victory against Scunthorpe United on 22 August 2017. His first goal for Middlesbrough arrived shortly after in the EFL Cup against Bournemouth, followed by his maiden league goal in a memorable 1–0 win over rivals Sunderland on 5 November 2017.

In January 2018, looking to gain valuable playing experience, Tavernier was loaned to Milton Keynes Dons, where he made eight appearances. Although the loan stint did not yield any goals, it provided him with crucial first-team experience during a challenging period for the Dons, who ultimately faced relegation. Upon returning to Middlesbrough, Tavernier’s potential was recognised with a new contract in December 2017, which was later extended in January 2020, showcasing the club's faith in his development.

In 2022, Tavernier made the significant move to Bournemouth, marking the next chapter of his career in the Premier League. His growing reputation was further cemented by his international appearances for England at U19 and U20 levels, where he scored once in two appearances between 2017 and 2019.
