Jefferson Andrés Lerma Solís, known simply as J. Lerma, is a dynamic Colombian midfielder currently plying his trade at Crystal Palace in the Premier League. With a career that began at the tender age of 18, Lerma has established himself as a versatile player capable of operating as both a defensive midfielder and centre-back. His journey from the youth ranks of Atlético Huila to the heights of international football is a testament to his talent and determination.
Born on 25 October 1994 in El Cerrito, Valle del Cauca, Lerma honed his skills at Atlético Huila, where he made his professional debut in March 2013. Over three years, he appeared in 20 matches, scoring three goals and proving instrumental in the midfield. In 2016, Lerma's potential caught the eye of Spanish club Levante, who initially signed him on loan. Shortly thereafter, Levante secured his services permanently, marking the beginning of his foray into European football.
In 2018, Lerma made a significant leap by signing with AFC Bournemouth for a club record fee of €30 million, a move that underscored his growing reputation. During his five-year spell at the Cherries, he became a fan favourite, showcasing his tenacity and tactical awareness in the heart of midfield. His performances helped the club navigate the challenges of the Premier League, culminating in a free transfer to Crystal Palace in 2023. At Palace, Lerma quickly made his mark, contributing to the team's success, which included winning the FA Cup in 2025.
On the international stage, Lerma has represented Colombia since 2017, making his senior debut a year after competing in the 2016 Summer Olympics with the Olympic team. His inclusion in the squad for the 2018 World Cup and participation in the Copa América tournaments in 2019 and 2024 further highlights his importance to the national side. Notably, he was part of the Colombia team that finished as runners-up in the 2024 Copa América, underscoring his role as a key player in Colombian football.
