Youri Baas, born on 17 March 2003 in Oostvoorne, is an emerging talent in Dutch football, currently showcasing his skills as a centre-back for Eredivisie giants Ajax. With a career that has rapidly progressed from local youth football to the international stage, Baas has already made a name for himself with his composure and tactical awareness on the pitch.
Baas began his football journey at local club OVV before joining the youth ranks of Excelsior in 2012. His potential was quickly recognised, leading to his move to Ajax's prestigious academy in 2017. It was here that Baas honed his skills, eventually making his professional debut with Jong Ajax in December 2020 during a thrilling 2–2 draw against De Graafschap. By March 2021, he had signed a contract extension, committing his future to Ajax until 2024, a testament to the club's faith in his abilities.
In August 2022, Baas stepped onto the field for Ajax's first team, marking his debut in a 2–0 victory over FC Utrecht in the Eredivisie. Over the course of the 2022–23 season, he made 10 appearances across various competitions, showcasing his defensive capabilities and earning valuable experience at the highest level. The following season, Baas was loaned to NEC, where he flourished, contributing to the team's success with 27 league appearances and 3 goals, while also helping them reach the KNVB Cup final, where they finished as runners-up.
Returning to Ajax for the 2024–25 season, Baas quickly established himself as a key figure in the defence, primarily operating on the left side of central defence. His journey reflects not only his hard work and dedication but also the potential for a bright future ahead. With a contract extension keeping him at Ajax until 2028, Baas is poised to become a mainstay in the team and a significant contributor to their pursuit of domestic and European success.
