Jorthy Mokio

Jorthy Mokio, born on 29 February 2008, is a Belgian prodigy who has rapidly made his mark in the world of football as a defender. Currently donning the Ajax jersey, Mokio is celebrated not only for his defensive prowess but also for his remarkable ability to adapt, having played both as a centre-back and a defensive midfielder. Mokio's journey began at KFC Merelbeke, from where he joined the K.A.A. Gent youth academy in 2021. His talent quickly shone through, and on 4 October 2023, he made history by becoming the youngest player from Gent to compete in the UEFA Youth League, a feat that underscored his potential. Just a few months later, on his 16th birthday, he was eligible to represent the senior team and made his Belgian Pro League debut on 29 March 2024. His first appearance was memorable, contributing to a resounding 5–1 victory over Standard Liège, marking the beginning of what many believe is a promising career.

In June 2024, Mokio attracted attention from top European clubs, including Barcelona, but chose to join AFC Ajax on a free transfer, signing a contract until June 2027. He initially played for Jong Ajax, where he made an immediate impact, netting twice in 17 appearances in the Eerste Divisie. His hard work paid off when he made his competitive debut for the Ajax first team on 29 August 2024. Mokio's meteoric rise continued as he became the youngest non-Dutch player to debut for the club and, shortly thereafter, the youngest-ever scorer in a UEFA Europa League knockout stage match.

On the international stage, Mokio has begun representing the Belgium national team, earning his first cap in 2025. With one appearance already to his name, he is set to become a vital part of Belgium's future defensive line.
