Portugal Player Ratings Vs Uzbekistan – Two 8/10s But One Player Gets 3/10

After a disappointing opening game against DR Congo, Portugal made up for lost time with a thumping 5-0 win over Uzbekistan in their sophomore 2026 World Cup outing.

GK: Diogo Costa – 6

Uzbekistan only mustered a measly two shots on goal, but Diogo Costa was equal to both of them without too much expenditure of effort.

Not much needs to be said about Costa’s display in this one. He wasn’t expected to be called into action much – and he wasn’t.

RB: Joao Cancelo – 7

Joao Cancelo was hooked at half-time, but not because he had played poorly – far from it. This was a solid outing from the former Manchester City man.

Finding Cristiano Ronaldo for the first goal of game, after just six minutes, it was a great ball into the box to find his team’s talisman.

CB: Ruben Dias – 7

Uzebkistan had minimal success going forward, but this was largely down to the solid efforts of the centre-back pairing. Ruben Dias, like his partner, put forth a good display.

Even though the Central Asian team regularly piled players forward, Dias snuffed them out at every turn, both on the ground and in the air.

CB: Renato Veiga – 7

Renato Veiga was also a reliable hand for Portugal on the day. He did pick up a yellow card, but we won’t let that sour his overall grade.

In particular, he made a fantastic block to deny a goalscoring opportunity in the first half – this was a marked improvement over his first outing.
