5 Premier League Stars Who COULD Join Real Madrid in the Summer

Real Madrid, despite their recent failings, are the biggest football club in the world. This isn’t up for debate – no other team can match the pedigree and worldwide recognition of Los Blancos.

As such, it isn’t surprising to see some of the Premier League’s top stars being linked with a move to the Bernabeu Stadium. The summer transfer window isn’t far away – who looks the most likely to complete a switch to Madrid?

We’ve included players from clubs such as Chelsea, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur in this list – let’s take a look at who is currently in Madrid’s crosshairs.

Enzo Fernandez

Enzo Fernandez has enjoyed arguably his best season in a Chelsea shirt to date. Scoring eight goals and notching up three assists in the Premier League this season, he has attracted the attention of Madrid’s recruitment team.

Madrid have been linked with a move for him and Manchester City’s Rodri, but their interest in the latter appears to have cooled recently. Therefore, a transfer involving Fernandez looks ever more likely.

Speaking with MARCA, journalist Raul Varela said: “Enzo is much closer to Real Madrid, Rodri has no chance of going to Real Madrid. Today, the president of Real Madrid doesn’t want to sign him.”

Cristian Romero

Cristian Romero has led a desperate campaign at Tottenham Hotspur. With Spurs leaning on the brink of relegation, an exodus seems inevitable – whether they remain in the Premier League or not.

Romero isn’t Madrid’s preferred target – they would rather sign Nico Schlotterbeck from Borussia Dortmund, but it looks increasingly likely that the towering German will sign a contract extension in favour of a jump to the Bernabeu.

Romero has a special release clause that will allow him to join top La Liga clubs for a cut price. Most clubs would have to pay £60.5m to activate his release clause, while Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are all able to sign him for £52m [via MARCA].

Sandro Tonali

Real Madrid are far from the only club who are interested in a move for Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali – nevertheless, their pursuit of the player has been documented.

Earlier in the month, The Sun reported that Madrid had sent scouts to monitor Tonali, though nothing has been heard on Madrid’s end since this.

Newcastle have not enjoyed a positive season by any means, but Tonali has been one of their better players – there have been noticeable gaps in their midfield when the Italian international hasn’t been present.

Marc Cucurella

Arguably the best left-back in the Premier League right now, Marc Cucurella rocked Chelsea by suggesting that he would entertain a move back to La Liga. Among those linked with a move for him are Madrid, but Barcelona are also thought to be in the mix.

Speaking on a potential move back to Madrid or Barcelona, Cucurella said [via FootballTransfers]: “You always think about going back. I’m very happy there [in London], and so is my family. I’ll leave it for a few years from now.

“It would be difficult to refuse. It’s not just about me. I’d have to think about my family. If it happens, it happens, and we’ll see what decision is made.”

Mohamed Salah

Recently, Mohamed Salah announced that he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season – unsurprisingly, there is shortage of top teams lining up to acquire his signature.

According to a report from Football Insider, Madrid are among those who are in the race, but they will have to contend with PSG, Bayern Munich and a myriad of teams in the Saudi Pro League.

This has been a quiet season for Salah, having scored just five goals in the Premier League, but he remains one of football’s biggest superstars at this time.
