Premier League Team of the Week XI

Following the most recent gameweek, there are just 15 gameweeks left in the 2025/26 Premier League season. Who is in the best position as we enter the campaign’s final act?

We saw big wins for Manchester United, Manchester City and Aston Villa in gameweek 23, while teams such as Arsenal, Newcastle United and Liverpool all succumbed to defeat. Who were this week’s top individual performers?

GK: Emi Martinez

Emi Martinez hasn’t had a perfect season, but he could not be faulted for his display against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park. It’s not often that the Toon fail to score at home, but they couldn’t find a way beyond the World Cup winner.

He had plenty of work to do, making a total of six saves to ensure that Aston Villa maintained their clean sheet away from home and kept their title challenge alive.

RB: Matheus Nunes

Matheus Nunes’ move to right-back has been a stroke of genius from Pep Guardiola. Upon his arrival, he looked like he wouldn’t make the grade in central midfield – instead, he is now thriving as a full-back.

Nunes didn’t have an awful lot of defensive work to do against Wolves, but he still notched up an assist and kept a clean sheet.

CB: Ezri Konsa

Ezri Konsa has to be a shoe-in for Thomas Tuchel’s England squad – he has been consistently outstanding for Aston Villa this season.

Konsa faced a tough task as the Villans travelled to Newcastle, but he was equal to every attack that the Toon could formulate. Villa snapped him up for just £12 million in 2019 – he’s proven to be an absolute bargain.

CB: Marc Guehi

Could Marc Guehi be Konsa’s long-term centre-back partner for England? The Three Lions have a few good options at centre-half, but none of them are on Guehi’s level at the moment.

Manchester City have displayed defensive frailities this season, but they were nowhere to be seen in Guehi’s debut performance as they kept a clean sheet in a 2-0 win against Wolves.
