Previewing the next 5 Chelsea Premier League fixtures
With the international break now coming to a close, Premier League football is due to return at the weekend. Chelsea will take on Brentford in their first fixture back, as they look to maintain their position in the title race.
We’ll take a look at Chelsea’s next five Premier League games and evaluate the Blues’ chances in each – they have some tough fixtures on the horizon, but who are they against?
| Opponent | Date | Prediction |
| Brentford (A) | September 13 | Win |
| Manchester United (A) | September 20 | Draw |
| Brighton (H) | September 27 | Win |
| Liverpool (H) | October 4 | Lose |
| Nottingham Forest (A) | October 18 | (A) |
Brentford (A)
Perhaps the easiest of Chelsea’s upcoming fixtures, Brentford are nonetheless no slouches. They have lost two of their opening games but were able to grind out a win over Aston Villa.
Can Chelsea avoid a potential banana skin against the Bees?
Brentford have scored in each of their Premier League games so far, but with five conceded, they aren’t too erudite at the back.
Manchester United (A)
It’s hard to determine how Manchester United will play on any given day. They are undergoing their customary peaks and valleys at the start of the season, but we believe Chelsea are the stronger team here.
The once-imposing fortress of Old Trafford has become a ground of good fortune for many clubs in the division.
As such, Chelsea will have enough to see the Red Devils off here, even in an away fixture.
Brighton (H)
Last time out, Brighton recorded a huge 2-1 win over Manchester City at the Amex Stadium, coming from behind to snatch three points. In many ways, Chelsea are a similar team – at least tactically – to City. Could this be a foreboding sign for Enzo Maresca?
Chelsea certainly have more quality up front than Brighton, who still rely upon an aging Danny Welbeck to have an effect.
Joao Pedro and Moises Caicedo will certainly be up for it as they take on their old team – can the pair live up to the occasion?
Liverpool (H)
By far the hardest of their next five fixtures, even with the game taking place at Stamford Bridge, a game against Liverpool will never be simple given their extremely expensive squad.
They are not unbeatable, however. Games against Bournemouth and Newcastle United showed how frail the Reds’ backline can be at times.
Nevertheless, they are league leaders for a reason – this will be a very tough game for the Blues.
Nottingham Forest (A)
Nottingham Forest started the season well with a win over Brentford, but have since fallen to back-to-back defeats.
This culminated in the sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo, who has since been replaced with former Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou.
This is a very difficult game to predict given the amount of unknown quantities – will Postecoglou be a success at Forest or not? Despite this, we think Chelsea should have enough in their armoury to chop down the Trees on October 18.
