Scotland Predicted Lineup Vs Brazil In Do-Or-Die World Cup Clash

Scotland have the chance to make history on Wednesday evening. For the first time in their history, they could escape the group stages of the World Cup – but five-time winners Brazil are standing in their way.

We’ve put together a predicted starting XI for the Tartan Army’s tussle with the most successful team in World Cup history – who will Steve Clarke pick for this historic encounter?

GK: Angus Gunn

We see no reason as to why Angus Gunn could – or should – be realistically dropped for Scotland’s game against Brazil on Wednesday evening.

He hasn’t really put a foot wrong thus far, having conceded just one goal in two games. As such, we’d consider his spot to be pretty safe.

RB: Nathan Patterson

Aaron Hickey is a doubt for the crunch clash with Brazil. While Clarke said that he is ‘improving’ [via Sports Mole], we’d suggest that Nathan Patterson is more likely to start.

Patterson played 89 minutes against Morocco, before being replaced by Anthony Ralston, so Clarke knows he can depend upon him.

CB: Jack Hendry

Again, there isn’t really much of a reason as to why either of the centre-backs should be dropped against Brazil, having both played every minute of their opening two games.

Jack Hendry has been pretty solid for the Tartan Army in their opening pair of games – furthermore, while Clarke said that Scott McKenna is ‘fine’, he probably isn’t match fit.

CB: Grant Hanley

The old war horse Grant Hanley should keep his spot, too. Many wrote him off before the World Cup began, but he has been solid thus far.

However, we do fear for him somewhat against Brazil – one wonders how he will cope with the pace of Vinicius Junior and company.
