Rap megastar is the latest high profile investor in Welsh club

Another Welsh club is attracting investment from overseas as Swansea City’s latest investor has been announced as none other than legendary rapper Snoop Dogg.

Swansea City enjoyed a positive spell on the field after a late season revival under then interim head coach Alan Sheehan who was subsequently made the permanent head coach after string of positive results leading to a solid finish in the league.

Irishman Sheehan transformed the team’s results after taking the reins, following Luke Williams being relieved of his duties after an underwhelming spell at the helm of the Welsh side. Swansea look like at least play-off candidates for the upcoming season off the back of the side’s form under Sheehan and some astute moves in the summer transfer window.

First high profile investment came from Luka Modric

Swansea made waves in the media when they announced that Croatian international and Real Madrid club legend Luka Modric had invested in the team.

Back in April, it was announced that the former Spurs man and Real Madrid’s most decorated player had become a minority stakeholder in the Swans. Modric was quoted by The Guardian as saying,

“Hi Swansea fans, I’m Luka Modric and I’m excited to be part of the journey,” going on to say, “My goal is to support the club’s growth in a positive way and to help to build an exciting future.”

Apparently this came about after Swansea City’s American ownership got in touch with the now AC Milan star’s agent and things went from there.

What will Snoop Dogg bring to the table?

American rapper Snoop Dogg has over 20m followers on X plus an additional 89m Instagram followers so he will certainly raise the profile of the team.

He is well documented as being a big sports fan regularly attending games in all the USA’s professional sports teams. The star has also been involved with the coaching of his son’s sports teams where they live in California.

Snoop Dogg appeared in the club’s new kit launch and is set to invest his own money into the team. As Sky Sports reported this is a big move by the ownership group, led by Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen, to raise the profile of the team and increase commercial revenue.

The rapper had the following to say when the news broke: “My love of football is well known, but it feels special to me that I make my move into club ownership with Swansea City.

“The story of the club and the area really struck a chord with me. This is a proud, working class city and club. An underdog that bites back, just like me.

“I’m proud to be part of Swansea City. I am going to do all I can to help the club, and I look forward to getting to know all my YJBS.”

With Hollywood stars, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds’ owned Wrexham making waves in football already as Championship new-boys, the stage seems set for Swansea City to follow suit and make both football and global headlines as they rival their Welsh counterparts for promotion to the Premier League in the season ahead.
