Done Deal – Sunderland close to signing French defender
Sunderland are in advanced talks to land Paris Saint-Germain defender Nordi Mukiele – the player is surplus to requirements at the Parc des Princes Stadium.
Sunderland are brimming with excitement for their return to the Premier League after an absence of 8 years. The club have left no stone unturned in the transfer market and will soon be making their 11th signing of the summer.
The well-established transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has provided further assurance about Sunderland’s eagerness to close a deal for Nordi Mukiele. It remains a matter of time before an official announcement is made regarding the transfer.
Why are PSG selling?
The 27-year-old Frenchman is not a part of the plans for Luis Enrique PSG side in the French capital this season. The player is not highly rated by the boss and even spent the entirety of last season on loan at Bayer Leverkusen.
Sunderland sign contract extension with key forward.
The two clubs have already reached an agreement. Agreeing on personal terms and successfully completing a medical check are the only two things holding the Black Cats from announcing the transfer. Makiele has also received the green light to travel to England for the medical.
What will Mukiele bring to Sunderland?
Nordi Mukiele is a versatile defender and would be a magnificent addition to the roster at the Stadium of Light. The player can operate as a right back as well as a centre back, something that could be of great benefit to manager Le Bris.

Nordi has been a bit of a journeyman thus far and has not settled down properly. Thus implying that the player is yet to discover the best of himself, and Sunderland presents an exciting opportunity for the Frenchman.

What did the manager have to say?
Speaking to the press on Thursday afternoon, Le Bris mentioned that his team are still on the hunt to fill 2 or 3 positions in his squad. The manager is quoted as saying –
“We’ll see. We still have one, two or three positions we could reinforce but it’s always connected with the reality of the market [and what’s possible]. We’ll see. Two weeks to go.
So far I think the connections are really positive. We have seen just through the friendly games the progression of the different phases in our game. It’s a reset. Every season is different because we’ll have a new challenge.
Eleven new players is an opportunity. It’s a new chapter and challenge and it’s positive to have new energy, creativity and a new point of view. For me, it’s more positive than something we can regret. It was important to challenge and reinforce the squad.”
