Sunderland prepared for positive winter window after solid start
After a swashbuckling summer outing in the transfer window, Sunderland are on course to be extremely busy in the winter window as well. The Black Cats are keen on offloading several players from the squad and might attempt a few more signings to bolster their team.
Regis Le Bris’ side have enjoyed a splendid start to the Premier League season. Sunderland are placed 4th in the points standings with 11 points to their credit. The Black Cats have also outsmarted West Ham United and Brentford at the Stadium of Light as well as beating Nottingham Forest away along with 2 draws.
According to multple reports, Sunderland are determined to offload out-of-favour players in the winter window. The money generated from player sales will also allow the BlackCats to seek reinforcements in areas of concern.
Possible departures from the Stadium of Light
Denis Cirkin is among the players who could reportedly be on the way out of the club. The left-back only has 12 months on his contract at the Stadium of Light. The player has also found himself falling down in the pecking order following the arrival of Reinildo and Arthur Musuaku.
Sunderland have not yet made a firm decision on Cirkin’s future. However, the road looks extremely bleak for the full-back with the Black Cats.
Players with good chances at survival
Despite being early days in the season, Sunderland have shown many flashes of brilliance and look solid to avoid the drop to the English Championship. If Le Bris & Co. are able to avert relegation, they could be on track to change the recent trend. In the past few years, newly promoted teams have immediately dropped down to the second division.
To begin with, Sunderland are returning to the Premier League after a prolonged absence of eight years and will be in no mood to leave the coveted league. The relegation battle consumed Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Southampton last season.
A similar trend was observed the year before when Luton Town, Burnley, and Sheffield United faced the drop. Regis le Bris’s men could change this misery this year, having started the campaign on a positive note.

Poor form displayed by West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers has also played to the Black Cats’ advantage. The winter window could turn out to be the turning point if Sunderland are to continue in the top flight as they may push to build on the first half of their season if their fine start continues.
