AC Milan History
AC Milan, despite being one of Italy’s most prominent clubs, was actually founded by an Englishman in 1899.
Having settled in Milan, he both managed and played for the club he helped build. He left his managerial post in 1906, but continued to play for the Red and Blacks until 1908.
AC spent many of their early years in relative obscurity, winning just three domestic trophies, before they became the superclub we all know today in the 1950s.
For nearly 20 years, Milan dominated Italian football, winning six league titles and two European Cups from 1950 to 1970. In the 1980s, however, the club underwent a period of decline. They were caught up in the Totonero scandal, which resulted in their demotion to Serie B for the first time in their history.
From the 1980s all the way to the late 2000s, Milan would become one of the world’s driving forces in football. In this period, they won seven Serie A titles, five European Cups/Champions Leagues and a single Coppa Italia.
