Bayern München History
Bayern Munchen came to be in 1900 when members of a local gynamstics club in Munich, known as MTV 1879, decided to create a football club. Despite inertia from league chiefs regarding their entry into the German Football Association, they were soon granted a spot.
Winning their first German Championship in 1932, they then faced scrutiny under the oppressive Nazi regime, frequently lambasted as a “Jews’ club”. This hampered their progress greatly, but were able to pick up the pieces in the wake of World War Two.
In the 1970s and 19080s, Bayern began to dominate German football. In this timeframe, they won nine Bundesliga titles, four DFB-Pokal trophies and three European Cups.
Today, Bayern Munchen are the biggest club in Germany. Their dominance was on full display when they won ten Bundesligas in a row, from 2013 to 2023 – they also won the Champions League in 2013 and 2020.
