Bologna History

Bologna FC came to be in 1909 thanks to the efforts of Austrian Emilio Arnstein, immediately beginning life as one of Serie A’s founding members.

In their early years, Bologna enjoyed their greatest period of success. They won two Serie A titles in the 1920s, three in the 1930s and one in the 1940s. Additionally, they also won the league in the 1960s.

They were marred by a period of decline in the 1980s, when they dropped all the way down to Serie C1. They did not spend long in Italy’s third tier, however – by the end of the decade, they were back in Serie A.

More recently, Bologna have had limited success in terms trophies, though they did win their third Coppa Italia in 2025.
