Eintracht Frankfurt History
Eintracht Frankfurt came to be in 1911, when two smaller clubs – Frankfurter Fußball-Club Victoria von 1899 and Frankfurter Fußball-Club Kickers von 1899 – merged together.
They were a dominant force in the regional leagues before the foundation of the Bundesliga in 1963. Frankfurt took part in the inaugural Bundesliga season, finishing third behind FC Koln and Meidericher SV.
They enjoyed perhaps their greatest period of success in the 1970s, when they won the DFB-Pokal in 1974 and 1975. Additionally, they also won the UEFA Cup in 1980.
The 1990s saw a period of decline, as they were relegated in 1996 after 33 years in Germany’s top flight. They would be relegated again in 2001, 2004 and 2011, but have since their second Europa League and the DFB Pokal again in 2018.
