Rangers History

Founded in 1872, Rangers were the third club to be established in Scotland, just behind Queen’s Park and Kilmarnock. One of Scotland’s two biggest clubs, they have a fierce rivalry with Celtic.

They were one of the original members of the Scottish Football League, becoming joint champions in its inaugural season alongside Dumbarton. Since then, the Gers have won a record 55 Scottish League titles, a record they share with Celtic.

In the 2010s, the club was hit with major financial issues and were forced into the liquidation. The club’s assets were sold to Sevco, who were then renamed The Rangers Football Club Ltd, allowing the them to stay alive. They were, however, relegated to Scottish League Two as a result.

Nevertheless, they would quickly rise back up through the leagues and reclaimed their place at the top of the pile in 2021, as Steven Gerrard guided them to their first Scottish Premiership title in 13 years.
