Rayo Vallecano History
Founded in 1924 and greatly inspired by Argentinian giants River Plate, Rayo Vallecano is generally considered to be Madrid’s third most successful club, behind Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. As a consquence, they have always been in the shadow of these two giants.
They have spent much of their history bouncing between La Liga and the Segunda Division, though they have gained more of a foothold in Spain’s top league in recent years.
Perhaps Vallecano’s crowning moment came at the conclusion of the 2017/18 season, when they won the Segunda Division title for the first time in their history.
Additionally, in 2022, they reached the semi finals of the Copa del Rey – something they had never done before. There, they were beaten by Real Betis, who went on to win the trophy that season.
