Sheffield Utd History
Sheffield United was initially formed in 1888 by members of Sheffield United Cricket Club, with their formation becoming official in 1889. The club was a near-instant success, as they won the First Division title in 1898 (the only time they have done so).
Despite their early successes, the Blades would struggle to maintain a foothold in the First Division after the conclusion of World War Two.
A strong run in the early 1970s, which saw them promoted back to the First Division, ultimately ended in disaster when were relegated to the Fourth Division at the end of the 1980/81 season.
Since then, United have spent time in and around the top two leagues, as well as a spell in League One during the 2010s. They were promoted to the Premier League once again in 2023, but suffered relegation in the very next campaign.
