Valencia History
Established in 1919, Valencia moved into their iconic Mestalla Stadium in 1923 and have remained there ever since. They entered the Copa del Rey in the same year, though the emerging Spanish Civil War postponed the club’s progress.
In the 1940s, Valencia enjoyed a period of dominance, win the La Liga title in 1942, 1944 and 1947. Additionally, they also won the Copa del Rey in 1941 and 1949.
Despite a strong run in the 2000s that saw them win both the La Liga title and the UEFA Cup in 2004, finanical issues have plagued them over the last few years, though they did managed to win the Copa del Rey once again in 2019.
They are perhaps best known for their excellent youth academy – Valencia have produced superstars such as David Silva, Jordi Alba and Fernando Gomez.
