Deal Close? – Thomas Frank has made his decision on playmaker
Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing up a move for coveted #10 Nico Paz. The Argentinian international has been subject to intense media speculation over a departure from the Italian side, FC Como.
Well-known Italian journalist, Gianluca di Marzio, has reported the Serie A side have received a bid in the region of €40 million for the 20-year-old Nico Paz. The club are adamant on their selling price and have turned down the opening advance from Thomas Frank’s side.
It is understood that Como are commanding a price tag of €70 million for the attacking midfielder. Paz arrived at the newly promoted Serie A side last season for a meagre fee of €7 million.
Nico Paz at FC Como
The player was an instant hit during his first season with the side managed by Cesc Fabregas. The youngster scored six goals and assisted nine more, helping Como finish in 10th place – something not many might have predicted when they earned their promotion to the Italian top flight.
Como are destined to book a massive transfer profit if a deal materialises for the player in the coming days. However, the deal is not as easy as it seems and is severely complex with several stakeholders at play.
Nico Paz is a product of Real Madrid’s La Fabrica academy, and Los Blancos own 50% of the player’s sell-on rights. Additionally, Xabi Alonso’s team reserves the right to match any offer that arrives for the Argentinian attacker.
Tottenham Hotspur, under the tutelage of Thomas Frank, will be gearing up for the 2025/26 Premier League season. However, the gaffer is missing out on the services of several first-team starters at the club over the years.
Thomas Frank must be encountering sleepless nights at the moment with star man, James Madison, set to miss the entire season with a ruptured ACL. The club were on the hunt for a playmaker even before Madisson picked up the horrible injury. However, the efforts have intensified with pressure mounting on the top brass as the summer window draws to a close.
What are others saying about Nico Paz?
Considered to be among the best footballers on the planet, Lionel Messi, who is also an international teammate of Paz, was full of praise for the young prodigy. Paz made his debut against Bolivia in October last year and set up a goal for Lionel Messi in a 6-0 victory. Messi was quoted as saying –
“Nico Paz has an incredible mindset, and that’s why he’s where he is,
Nico has a lot of quality and understands the game perfectly. He has an incredible mindset, and he’s with Cesc Fabregas as coach, who is my friend and will help him grow a lot”
